The bottleneck challenge is an interesting one, especially when it’s happening with the best interests of the company in mind. My view is that it’s vital the High Performers take a step back and give more responsibility to the Lesser Mortals. It’s pretty much guaranteed that things will get worse before they get better — tasks will take longer and High Performers will spend more time mentoring, reviewing and advising than they would if they took on everything themselves. This should be short term pain though — most Lesser Mortals will rise to the challenge and the alternative is a pretty hard stop on the company’s growth and scale.
